What are her intentions?

Brief background. My ex girlfriend and I broke up about 3 years ago. It ended with her breaking up with me when she went off to college. She pulled the "wanting to stay friends" act on me...but that didn't really work. Since then I have started up a new relationship with someone else. Recently she has reached out to me and wants to try being "friends" with me. She tries to make it quite clear to me that she is not romantically interested...just strictly platonic (she told me this with the explanation that one day she will tell me that's it's for my own good...not her being selfish). My question is this: Why does she want to be my friend? After all of this time, what draws her to this request? She has plenty of "friends"...I am not sure why she would like to be mine (I understand we have a general caring for one another...but it's still a bit odd). Anyone think she's trying to relieve any guilt she may have had? Thank you in advance for replying!
