Buying a house with unserviced boiler?

We're in the process of buying a house and the owners haven't had their boiler serviced for several years. We want to know that it's safe and in good order before proceeding, but who's responsibility is it? Can we ask them to service it as a condition of sale? Its about 10 years old I think.
