What planet is that bright morning star...?

What planet is that bright morning star in the east as seen from the northern hemisphere this month, May 2010? It appears an hour or two before dawn, but I can't seem to find any website with information I can understand, that is to say in beginner's terms. And where can I go for information as a kind of a starting place, to learn where to look for the planets and stars in the night sky?
